The New Year is around the corner and this transitional time is perfect for cultivating mindfulness, connection, and self-reflection.
It’s my annual end-of-the-year tradition to recommend 3 simple and meaningful things that encourage mindfulness and intentional action as you wrap up the year.
So, here you go! 3 things you need to do before 2024
1. Look in the mirror and say something kind to yourself
Looking in the mirror and saying something kind to yourself promotes self-validation and cultivates self-love and personal growth. So stand up, go to the mirror, look into your eyes, say something kind to yourself, and smile.
2. Breathe before you eat
The next time you sit down for a meal, before you start eating take 3 intentional deep breaths. Those 3 intentional deep breaths help relax your body and calm your nervous system, which helps put you into a parasympathetic rest and digest state. This supports digestion and is a good way to lower stress, which improves gut health.
3. Hug someone you love for a really long time
Did you know that when you hug someone for 20 seconds or more that the feel-good hormone oxytocin is released which has been shown to support the immune system, relieve blood pressure, reduce stress, and ease depression. It is said that: we need four hugs a day for survival, we need eight hugs a day for maintenance and we need 12 hugs a day for growth. So go hug someone you love for a long time.
Have a Happy New Year!
I’m looking forward to connecting in 2024.
