How to Protect Your Energy

You know the feeling of being pulled in a million different directions, running around, feeling overwhelmed and energetically drained?

Or being around negative people whose energy depletes you?

We are made up of life force energy, constantly interacting with people and events around us. It's critical to become aware of how you are exchanging your energies because far too often if you don’t protect our energy, you are left feeling depleted and anxious.

Protect my energy?

When you protect your energy, you first cultivate self-awareness about what increases your energy and enhances positive feelings and second, you learn how to shield yourself from energetic depletion.

Many of us live in stress and overwhelm, or live on autopilot. So pausing and checking in with yourself to see what you need might not come easily.

To get you started, here are 5 practices to protect your energy

1. Grounding

Grounding, or earthing, is when you directly connect your body to the earth in order to receive the earth's natural electric charges. You can do this by walking barefoot outdoors or using indoor grounding mats while sleeping or sitting. Research on grounding also suggests that benefits include reduced pain, lowered inflammation and stress.

2. Crystals

In podcast episode 82 “Spirituality vs. Woo With Anna Brooke” I mentioned that I hold a specific crystal in my hand when I record my podcasts. While I’m not an expert on crystals, I do believe they can be a powerful resource for protecting your energy. Here are a few crystals that you could wear, carry, or keep in your space to protect you:

  • Clear quartz - For Positivity And Positive Energy

  • Black Tourmaline - For Grounding and Protection

3. Visualization

Visualize a healing light (any color) of protection surrounding you. While taking deep breaths, allow your imagination to visualize a protective positive aura energy around you. Practice this anytime, for example, before sleep, whenever you’re feeling drained, or prior to a stressful meeting with your toxic boss. Visualizing takes just a few minutes and is a simple practice for everyday maintenance of your energy.

4. Take Social Media Breaks

Social media is an energy suck that can mess with your mental health. I recommend taking social media breaks whenever you feel as though it is depleting or negatively affecting your energy. Unfollowing and muting people (even friends) is sometimes necessary. Give yourself, and your energy, that protection and freedom from “compare and despair.”

5. Set Boundaries and keep them

One of the best ways to protect your energy is by getting clear with what your boundaries are both personally and professionally, with others and with yourself. Setting boundaries looks different for everyone because it’s based on what YOU NEED. Setting boundaries is a way to show love to yourself, which ultimately positively affects all aspects of your life. Ask yourself, where in my life can I set loving boundaries that serve my wellbeing?
