What Is Heart Centered Living?

Lately, I’ve been reflecting on what it means to lead with my heart and intentionally trying to connect with my heart.

While I believe that heart-consciousness and heart-centered living is central to health and healing, our culture glorifies the intellect and teaches us to be mind dominant, discounting our heart’s wisdom. But the heart plays a significant role in our ability to make wise decisions and tap into our intuition. It is a boundless and revered source of wisdom in many ancient traditions.

What is “heart centered”?

  • Focusing your energy on love and compassion as guiding principles of our life

  • Living in alignment with your authentic self

  • Understanding your core values, trusting and respecting yourself

It often feels easier, or safer, to use your intellect. However, when the mind is dominant, often patterns involving arrogance, insecurity, frustration, and judgment can infiltrate your thinking so that they become part of your normal consciousness.

Whereas when you are heart centered, you are typically more accepting, less judgmental, suspicious, and insecure.

Being heart centered helps you become more mindful of the present, allowing you to more easily let go of anxiety and fear. Opening up your heart energy fosters compassionate connections and you begin to sense and listen with patience and care.

Our deepest knowing, connections, and most fulfilling experiences are accessed through the heart.

We have a different experience when we respond from the heart than when our mind is in charge.

And as we learn to lead with our hearts, things that used to trigger us might no longer trigger us. Or, at the very least, the intensity of our emotional reactivity is reduced.

Seeking to access the wisdom of your heart requires trust, letting go, and inviting your heart's wisdom to guide you.

With your heart as your guide, you are able to tap into the expansive universal energy that allows you to realign with your truth, leading you to a more fulfilling and authentic life.

Sounds pretty great, right?

So if you’re feeling unsettled, discouraged, or frustrated, ask yourself, What if I chose to lead with love? What if I brought my whole heart to a situation? What would that look like? How might it make a difference in my life?
