5 Benefits of Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

You may know that in addition to being a nutritional therapist and holistic wellness coach, I’ve been a world-traveling burlesque performer for 19 years.

Even though I've been performing for a long time now, I was undeniably nervous and intimidated in the beginning. But I chose to step out of my comfort zone because I was eager to try something new, creative and fun, which then opened up a world of opportunities, community, and growth.

Another leap out of my comfort zone was going back to school to become a nutritional therapist. It fulfilled a desire to be of service and help others on their health and healing journey.

What is a comfort zone?

It’s a familiar psychological state, place or situation in which you feel safe. It fulfills your need for certainty and you’re more at ease because you feel in control. When you stay in your comfort zone, you don't typically engage in new experiences, take risks or challenges.

Even when living with pain or health issues, we often don’t make changes to improve our situation because that’s our “comfort zone.” It may be uncomfortable, but it’s familiar. Can you relate?
