How to Create More Harmony in Your Life

The holiday season is upon us… lots of thoughts and feelings, lots of universal changes and energetic shifts. How are you doing?

I am still thinking about Louise Hay’s November affirmation about gratitude for harmony. I love the word harmony. It fills me up with a sense of ease and peace. And we want more ease and peace in our life, right?

The problem is, often we feel overwhelmed and over-stressed, which contributes to a sense of disharmony. When we feel this way, it impacts how we treat ourselves and others.

But! When we tap into the feeling of harmony, which requires mindfulness, we feel more whole, more at peace and relaxed. We treat ourselves and others accordingly.

Here are 8 tips for harmonious living

1. Practice empathy and compassion

Cultivating empathy and compassion for yourself and others is foundational to living in harmony. Approach yourself, others, and your life with curiosity, not judgment. Have an open mind to view things from different perspectives and allow everyone - ourselves included - to feel seen, heard, and valued.

2. Practice self-care

Prioritize and nourish yourself, your needs, and your wellness. What do you love to do? Prioritize that. Who do you love to spend time with? Prioritize them. Prioritize rest, nourishing foods, and moving your body in ways that feel good to you.

3. Practice mindfulness

Focus on the present moment to heal and renew yourself. I always recommend deep breathing or meditation. Check these out:

4. Connect with nature

Spending time outside in nature reduces stress, boosts mood, and improves cognitive function. So take a walk, sit under a tree, listen to the birds sing, feel the sun on your skin and the earth beneath your feet. Read, "Earthing: Ground Your Body and Lower Inflammation."

5. Practice and Embrace forgiveness

Forgiveness can be hard, but it can help to put your heart and mind at ease. Anger and resentment never serve your emotional wellbeing. When we forgive ourselves and others, we nurture more feelings of understanding and empathy and compassion.

6. Embrace imperfection

When we let go of perfectionism and unrealistic expectations, when we learn to accept and love ourselves as we are, it frees up our energy to prioritize what truly matters to us. And when we prioritize what truly matters to us, we feel more aligned and harmonious.

7. Harness your communication skills

Communicate openly and be honest and willing to listen to others' perspectives. This can deepen your connections with others and foster greater harmony in your relationships. Important communication skills include showing empathy and active listening. Listen to episode 43 - Being an Active Listener

8. Cultivate gratitude

Make a conscious effort to appreciate and acknowledge the good things in your life and express gratitude for them – even during challenging times - you cultivate a more optimistic outlook and attract more harmony into your life.

You’re not going to feel in harmony with yourself, your life and the universe every day, and that’s okay! The point is to embrace moments or days of disharmony. The ebbs and flows of life. Finding harmony in our lives is an ongoing journey that requires intentional effort and self-awareness rooted in your own inner strength, trust, and compassion.

So, let’s start today and see where the journey of living in harmony takes us.
